Franco Rinaldi in colloquio con Nicola Baroni

Una delle domande che rivolgiamo a Rinaldi riguarda le sue fonti di ispirazione. La risposta, che pesca nella letteratura prima che nel mondo dell’arte, ci stupisce solo in parte, alla luce della pluralità di livelli in cui lo sapevamo muoversi:

La lettura delle opere di F.Kafka mi è fatale, da quel momento l’arte nella sua parte più legata all’inconscio e al fantastico diventano il binario su cui far viaggiare il mio lavoro. Poi ovviamente Van Gogh, ero affascinato dalla sua figura più che dalla sua arte, ho amato il gruppo del ponte e gli espressionisti, per poi rimanere folgorato da Alberto Savinio prima e Victor Brauner con tutti i surrealisti poi.

Come Le nasce l’ispirazione di un’opera?
Il lavoro parte dal buio della carta o della tela bianca, io dico sempre che opero togliendo l’immagine dal bianco, risolvendo gli errori che incontro. Comincio chiedendomi dove è posizionato nel bianco della carta o della tela il mio soggetto. Spesso questa fase è molto lunga e sofferta, ma una volta che mi si mostra, l’immagine cresce velocemente, velatura dopo velatura, fino a quando anche un piccolo tratto sarebbe di troppo, e a volte mi è difficile collocare la firma senza turbare l’equilibrio. Finita l’opera, devo subito toglierla alla vista per lasciare posto alla successiva che mi si sta formando dentro.

La scelta di affrontare tematiche sacre per un artista contemporaneo è insolita. Ha avuto difficoltà nell’indagare questa realtà, ha sentito per esempio il peso di moduli ripetitivi e preordinati?
Certo, oggi l’arte contemporanea è libera di esprimersi, ma se si pone il tema del sacro ecco che subito sorgono dubbi e domande sulla sua autonomia.
Io da tempo cerco di affrontare il tema con il mio modo di fare arte mettendo al centro il Mistero, quel Mistero che porta con sé molto dell’ineffabilità della creazione artistica, come suggerisce papa Giovanni Paolo II nella sua lettera agli artisti. Credo che l’arte sia il mezzo che più si adatti a dare frutto alle richieste che chiedeva il Papa e dunque io ho usato e uso questo mezzo cercando di mostrare la poesia che è nel mistero, penso infatti che solo per assonanza si riesca a cogliere, rendendolo immagine, quello che altri sensi non possono mostrare.

Tra questa realtà intangibile e invisibile che non si può trovare nel quotidiano ma può trovare rappresentazione solo nell’arte c’è il mistero di quel Dio creatore che Rinaldi, stanco della tradizionale e obsoleta figurazione sacra, rappresenta come architetto ordinatore. Un architetto curiosamente simile all’artista creatore e ordinatore del mondo onirico che popola la sua arte.
